カラステングは「神通力」という、厳しい修行を重ねたものだけが使えるといわれており、特別な能力を持っています。この「神通力」は私たちの持つ6つの潜在能力を最大限まで引き起こしたものといわれています。


神足通：神の足をもって自分が行きたいと望んだ場所に何の妨げもなくいくことができる移動能力。

天眼通：自分や他人の未来を見ることができる未来予知能力。未来予知をすることで自らの行いを変え、よりよい未来へ変えていく力。

天耳通：遠くの音から近くの音まであらゆる音を聞き分けたり、動物の声を聞くことができる能力。万物の音を聞くことで世を知り、自分を知るための能力。

他心通：相手の心を読み取る能力。相手の心を読み、本当の望みを知りそれに報いる能力。
体得することが非常に難しく、澄んだ心の持ち主だけがこの能力を得ることができるといわれている。

宿命通：自分や相手の過去を遡って見つめることのできる能力。過去とは今世だけでなく、前世やさらにそれ以前も含む。過去の行いを見つめることで、現在の行いを見直す能力とされている。

漏尽通：煩悩を無くし、悟りを開いたものだけが得られる能力。悟りを開くことで世の中の道理を知ることができ、この世に対する一切の迷いや悩みがなくなり、輪廻転生からの解脱を可能とする。
この力を得て初めて神へ成れることから、最も体得が難しい能力とされる。

カラステングリングには、これら神通力の能力からインスピレーションを得た装飾が施されています。

カラステングは山伏の格好をしていることから、日本の山岳信仰と深く結びついているといわれています。

山の豊かな自然、それと同時にその雄大な姿や自然災害に対する畏怖・畏敬の念から山には神が住む、もしくは神が降臨する場所とされ、日本でも山では祭祀も多く行われてきました。
また日本の山岳信仰は山頂に達することが重要視され、そこから見える朝日(ご来光)に対しても強い信仰心があり、山岳信仰と太陽信仰に強い結びつきがあります。

カラステングには諸説あり、インド神話のガルーダが元になっているという説もあり、仏教の守護神が日本の山岳信仰と結びつき生まれたとも考えられるでしょう。

高尾山薬王院の御本尊である「飯綱大権現（いづなだいごんげん）」の姿はカラステングそのものであり、農耕神として、そして戦国時代には多くの武将より戦神として崇められてきました。カラステングは日本ならでは神道と仏教の二つの信仰の共存(神仏習合)、があったからこそ生み出された神様といえるでしょう。

Karasu Teng posess a special ability called "Jintsuriki (Divine power)", which is said to be available only to those who have undergone rigorous training. This " Jintsuriki (Divine power)" is said to our six latent abilities to be the maximum.

These are the 6 abilities

神足通 Jinsokutsu : The ability to move with God's feet to go where one wishes to go without hindrance.

天眼通 Tengentsu : The ability to foresee the future, which allows us to see the future of ourselves and others. The ability to change one's own actions and change the future for the better by foreseeing the future.

天耳通 Tennitsu : The ability to hear all kinds of sounds, from distant to near, and to hear animal voices. The ability to know the world and to know oneself by hearing the sound of all things.

他心通 Tashintu : The ability to read the mind of the other person. The ability to read the mind of others, to know what they really want, and to reward them for it.
It is very difficult to master, and it is said that only those with a clear mind can acquire this ability.

宿命通 Shukumeitsu : The ability to see one's own or another's past retrospectively. The past includes not only this life, but also previous lives and even before that. It is also referred to as the ability to review one's current conduct by looking at one's past conduct.

漏尽通 Rojintsu : It is the ability that can be attained only by those who have attained enlightenment and have eliminated all worldly desires. By attaining enlightenment, one is able to know the reason of the world, and all doubts and worries about the world disappear, enabling one to be liberated from reincarnation.
It is said to be the most difficult ability to attain, since one can become a god only after attaining this power.

Karasu Tengu ring is decorated with ornaments inspired by these divine powers of potency.

Karasu Teng

Karasu Teng is said to be deeply connected with Japanese mountain worship, as it is dressed as a mountain ascetic.

Because of the abundance of nature in the mountains, as well as the awe and reverence for their majestic appearance and natural disasters, mountains are believed to be places where gods live or descend, and many rituals are performed in the mountains in Japan.
In addition, Japanese mountain worshipers place great importance on reaching the summit of a mountain and have a strong belief in the morning sunrise (The rising sun) that can be seen from there, thus creating a strong connection between mountain worship and sun worship.

There are many theories about the Karasu Teng, and some believe that it is based on Garuda from Indian mythology, and that it was created when a Buddhist guardian deity was combined with Japanese mountain worship.

The main deity of Yakuoin Temple on Mt. Takao is “Izuna Daigongen”, who is the very embodiment of Karasu Teng, and it has been worshipped as a god of agriculture, and as a god of war by many warlords during the Warring States period.
Karasu Teng is a deity that was created because of the coexistence of Shinto and Buddhist beliefs (syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism), which is unique to Japan.
