八尺瓊勾玉は三種の神器の一つとして代々天皇家に受け継がれていますが、壇ノ浦の戦い(1185年)で安徳天皇と共に海に沈み一度は失われ、その後に海より引き揚げられたとされている。

このエピソードからメインの石には、三種の神器という貴いレガリアと、荒々しい海水をイメージしブルーダイアモンドを用いました。

また八咫鏡を天照大御神、天叢雲剣を須佐之男命、そして勾玉を月読命で三種の神器は三貴子を表しているという説もあることから、勾玉の正面には夜空に浮かぶ月と雲を、彫りとタンザナイトを用いて表現しました。

玉は胎児など「生命の誕生」を模したともされているので、モチーフ全体に息づく生命を感じられるようなデザインを施しました。

 

  

勾玉
マガタマ

勾玉は日本人が身に着けていた最も古い装飾品の一つとされています。勾玉の元となっているのは、はるか昔縄文時代に動物の牙に穴をあけ、首飾りとして使用されたものが、次第に祭祀や祈禱の際に用いられるようになっていきました。勾玉の材質も次第に牙から、碧玉や瑪瑙(メノウ)に変化をし、古墳時代には支配者階級の装身具として多く用いられるようになったそうです。

その後に編纂された古事記では、勾玉は玉祖命(たまのおやのみこと)という玉作りの祖神が、天照大御神が岩戸隠れの際に八尺瓊勾玉(やさかにのまがたま)を作ったとされ、その後邇邇芸命（ニニギノミコト）が天孫降臨の際にたずさえた【三種の神器】の一つとして有名です。

日本の三種の神器は世界で最も古いレガリア(正当な王位継承者のみが継承できる象徴物)とされており、代々天皇家に受け継がれています。

現在も本物は皇居内で常に天皇家の傍らに置かれております。

The Magatama, one of the three sacred treasures, has been handed down from generation to generation in the Japanese emperor's family. It is said to have been lost in the Battle of Dannoura (1185), when it sank into the sea with Emperor Antoku, but was later recovered from the sea.

This episode inspired the use of blue diamonds for the main stone, which symbolizes the precious regalia of the three sacred treasures and the wild seawater.

The Yata no kagami (Mirror) is represented by Amaterasu Omikami, the Ama no murakumo (Sword) by Susano no mikoto, and the Magatama by Tsukuyomi no Mikoto, and since there is a theory that the three sacred objects represent the three gods, the moon and clouds in the night sky are represented on the front of the Magatama by carving and Tanzanite.

Since it is said that the Magatama imitates the "birth of life" such as a fetus, we designed the entire motif to feel the life that breathes in the motif.

 

Magatama (Comma-shaped-Jewels)

The Magatama is considered to be one of the oldest ornaments worn by the Japanese. The original Magatama were made from the tusks of animals and used as necklaces during the Jomon period, and gradually came to be used in rituals and prayers. The material of Magatama gradually changed from tusks to jasper or agate, and during the Kofun period, they were often used as ornaments for the ruling class.

In the later compilation of the Kojiki (A historical book containing Japanese mythology of Japan. Also, the oldest extant book in Japan), it is said that Magatama was made by Tama-no-oya-no-Mikoto, the ancestor of ball makers, during the event of Iwato-gakure "hiding in Iwato” in which Amaterasu Omikami hid herself in the Ama no Iwato "heavenly rock cave".  And later became famous as one of the "Three Sacred Treasure" that Ninigi no Mikoto carried with him when he descended from Takamagahara (the heavenly realm) to the Ashihara no Nakatsukuni (the earthly realm, mainly referring to Japan).

 

The Three Sacred Treasures of Japan are considered the oldest regalia in the world and have been passed down from generation to generation in the Emperor's family.

Even today, the original Magatama is always kept beside the emperor's family in the Imperial Palace.
