The original Magatama were made from the tusks of animals and used as necklaces during the Jomon period, and gradually came to be used in rituals and prayers. The material of Magatama gradually changed from tusks to jasper or agate, and during the Kofun period, they were often used as ornaments for the ruling class.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn the later compilation of the Kojiki (A historical book containing Japanese mythology of Japan.
